Six Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot flights scheduled for February 28th and March 1st have been cancelled following strikes by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, according to a statement released by SIA on February 28th.
The cancelled SIA flights are SQ494 and SQ495, operating between Singapore and Dubai, on both February 28th and March 1st, totaling four flights. Two Scoot flights – TR596 from Singapore to Jeddah and TR597 from Jeddah to Singapore – were cancelled on February 28th. SIA is advising customers to update their contact information through the Manage Booking function on its website or subscribe to mobile notifications for flight updates.
“We will continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East closely and will adjust our flight paths as needed,” SIA stated. Singaporean embassies in the Middle East have advised citizens in the region to exercise caution and remain informed of developments amid heightened tensions.
The disruptions extend beyond Singaporean carriers. Malaysia Airlines reported that two flights bound for the Middle East were diverted on February 27th due to a mid-flight advisory regarding increased airspace risk. Flight MH160, originally destined for Doha, returned to Kuala Lumpur, while Flight MH156, headed for Jeddah, was diverted to Chennai, India. Both Malaysia Airlines flights have since safely returned to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The airline stated the diversions were carried out in accordance with established conflict-area protocols.
Flight tracking data shows MH156 departed KLIA at approximately 7:15 PM on February 27th, landing in Chennai after being diverted, and ultimately returning to KLIA at around 8:50 AM on February 28th. MH160 departed KLIA at 9:40 PM on February 27th, was turned back, and landed at KLIA at 3:40 AM on February 28th. Affected passengers were provided with alternative flight arrangements and hotel accommodations as needed, according to Malaysia Airlines.
The flight cancellations and diversions occurred prior to the US and Israel launching strikes in Iran on February 28th. These strikes follow a period of escalating conflict, including a 12-day air war between Israel and Iran in June 2025, during which the US participated in an Israeli military campaign targeting Iranian nuclear installations – described by Reuters as the most direct American military action against the Islamic Republic to date. Prior to the February 28th strikes, both the US and Israel had repeatedly warned of further action should Iran continue its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Following the strikes on February 28th, airspace over Israel, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan was reported closed, according to Reuters. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 indicated aircraft avoiding these areas. Other airlines, including Lufthansa and Air France, have also suspended or cancelled flights to destinations in the Middle East.
