Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Former BBC Television Center in White City
London, UK - September 6, 2025 – Firefighters are currently battling a significant blaze at the Helios Building on Wood Lane in White City, the site formerly occupied by the BBC’s Television Centre. London Fire Brigade received the first reports of the fire shortly after 3:00 AM this morning and deployed crews from Hammersmith, North Kensington, Kensington, Chiswick, and surrounding stations.Two 32-meter turntable ladders are being used as water towers to combat the fire from above.
The incident prompted evacuations of nearby buildings as a precaution, and a rest centre has been established to support displaced residents. One patient was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews,including an ambulance crew,an incident response officer,and the hazardous area response team,and subsequently discharged. Wood lane remains closed to traffic, and the public is advised to avoid the area.
The Helios Building, wich currently houses 162 homes alongside a gym and a 47-bedroom hotel, represents a significant residential and commercial space in West London. The BBC operated from Television Centre until 2013, when it relocated to Broadcasting House. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation. Emergency services are continuing to work closely together as the incident remains ongoing.
