Final Fantasy Resonance Launches on Steam as Premium JRPG
Square Enix released Final Fantasy Resonance on Steam on Thursday, October 22, 2026, launching the new role-playing game at a price of 49,99€. Developed in partnership with LANCARSE Ltd., the title immediately attracted 18,462 concurrent players on its opening day alongside 306 user reviews that resulted in a "Very Positive" rating of 94 percent.
Transition from Mobile to Steam
The release marks a structural shift for a title originally known as Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Square Enix stripped out the original game’s gacha mechanics and free-to-play framework to build a standalone, premium Japanese RPG. It is now a full-fledged JRPG with the gacha elements gone, transforming the game into a complete release.
Instead of randomized character pulls, players advance through a revised version of the first season’s narrative. The story begins following a mysterious archwitch through a destroyed land encountering a band of knights known as the Sworn Six, alongside the young woman Fina, whose memories have vanished, alongside protagonists Rain and Lasswell as they visit Crystal Shrines to thwart the faction known as the Sworn Six.
Windows Release Replaces Touch Controls with Turn-Based Combat
To fit single-player hardware platforms, LANCARSE Ltd. replaced touch controls with traditional turn-based combat and streamlined the job system for the Windows release.
Players recruit assistance from "Visions"—which include classic characters from earlier series entries alongside figures from Brave Exvius—rather than unlocking fighters through randomized gacha pulls. These resonances are accompanied by a cinematic that portrays the character within the vision in a striking manner.

Initial Market Standing
The game’s 18,462 concurrent players—measured as a snapshot of who is playing right now—place it well below major platform mainstays on Steam, where top titles like Counter-Strike 2 draw daily peaks above 1.2 million users and Dota 2 exceeds 900,000, specifically reaching 907,099 players. Behind them, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS hits a peak of 778,436 on the third spot, while Deadlock stands fifth with a daily peak of 200,271 players, Apex Legends™ is sixth with 206,385, and WARDOGS seventh with 200,134. Yet within hours of its Thursday debut, the 49,99€ Windows release secured 289 positive reviews against just 17 negative ratings, establishing an early positive reception among buyers on the platform.
