Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Femicide in Acarigua
ACARIGUA, Venezuela – A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the femicide of his 20-year-old ex-partner, the Public Ministry reported. The sentencing was handed down by the 13th Court of Judgment after the man admitted responsibility for the crime.
The brutal attack occurred on December 10, 2024, at a residence in the Cardenalillo hamlet of the Esteller municipality, Portuguese. According to authorities, the perpetrator gained entry to the victim’s home and inflicted 36 stab wounds to her head, face, neck, and hands, resulting in her death at the scene. This case underscores the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in Venezuela and the legal system’s response to such crimes.
Following the murder, the assailant fled the location but was apprehended hours later by officials from the Bolivarian National Police of Acarigua. The prosecution successfully argued for aggravated femicide during the trial, presenting evidence that led to the conviction.
The convicted man will serve his sentence at the Penitentiary centre of the Western Llanos.
