FC Barcelona Faces Real Betis in Seville La Liga Clash
FC Barcelona enters Saturday evening carrying a flawless domestic and European record into Seville, where a resurgent Real Betis side awaits their clash. While Hansi Flick’s visiting squad has dominated the opening stretch of the campaign with 34 goals across eight matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s hosts have matched their historic 1934/35 start to sit comfortably near the top of the La Liga table.
Unbeaten Catalans Face Historic Pressure in Seville
FC Barcelona has yet to drop a single point after eight games in La Liga and two in the Champions League. Every victory this season has arrived by a margin of two goals or more, highlighted by a 4-1 comeback win against Galatasaray in Istanbul. Yet that streak faces a severe test at 6.30pm CEST on Saturday.
Matches against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain sit directly on the horizon. First, however, the Catalan side must manage a Benito Villamarín fixture against an Andalusian opponent enjoying its finest league opening in nearly a century.
Andalusian Ambitions Match 1934 Glory
Real Betis sits in joint second place alongside Atlético Madrid on 19 points, matching the exact trajectory of their 1934/35 championship campaign. Pellegrini’s side has secured six wins and a draw from eight league outings, featuring notable victories over Real Madrid and Villarreal alongside a successful start to their first Champions League appearance since 2005.
The home side boasts a largely healthy roster, with only Junior Firpo and Aitor Ruibal expected to miss the weekend encounter.
Squad Reinforcements Shape the Matchday Dynamics
Barcelona arrives with vital personnel returning to the fold. Raphinha recovered from a minor injury sustained on international duty, while Frenkie de Jong returns to full fitness after missing the entire 2026/27 season so far. Hansi Flick confirmed on Friday that both players are ready for selection. Roony Bardghji and Andreas Christensen remain the sole absentees for the visitors.
Lamine Yamal has contributed directly to twelve goals during his eight league appearances, netting seven times and providing five assists. For Betis, Isco anchors the midfield control, sharing the club’s scoring lead in La Liga with two goals alongside Cucho, Riquelme, and former Barcelona player Abde. Isco has scored three times in four league appearances against Barcelona while wearing a Betis shirt.
Barcelona Seeks Record Start Against Struggling Betis
History favors the visiting side in this fixture. Barcelona has won eleven of its last fifteen visits to Betis, with the remaining four ending in draws, marking the longest home drought Betis has ever suffered against a single league opponent. Barcelona has scored in twenty consecutive away matches at Betis, totaling 52 goals.
A victory on Saturday would equal Barcelona’s best-ever start to a league season with nine consecutive wins, matching the all-time league record set by Real Madrid in the 1968/69 season.
