FBI Locates rifle Used in Shooting Death of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced today the recovery of the rifle used in the shooting that claimed the life of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, at the university of Utah on Wednesday. Authorities continue to search for the suspect, described as having been captured on security footage moving across building rooftops following the incident.
The investigation into Kirk’s death, which Utah Governor Spencer Cox has characterized as a “political murder,” has intensified as investigators work to identify the shooter. Kirk, 31, was a prominent figure in American conservative politics, credited with mobilizing support for former President Donald Trump among younger voters and a vocal advocate for Second Amendment rights. The case has drawn national attention, prompting a joint investigation by the Utah Department of Public Security and the FBI.
Utah’s Public Safety Commissioner stated that investigators possess “good images of the suspect” and are currently employing advanced technologies to establish an identity. Should those efforts prove unsuccessful, authorities plan to release the images to the public and solicit assistance from the media in identifying the individual.
A person previously detained in connection with the investigation has since been released. Despite the ongoing search, officials remain confident in the capabilities of the investigative team. The FBI’s recovery of the weapon represents a meaningful development in the case, offering a crucial piece of evidence as the pursuit of the suspect continues.
