Fan Bingbing’s Golden Horse Win: Career Comeback After Tax Scandal

Fan Bingbing Awarded Best Actress at Golden Horse Film Awards for “Mother Bhumi” role

fan Bingbing has⁣ won the Best Actress award at the prestigious Golden Horse ‍Film Awards, often ⁢referred to as the Chinese-language Oscars, ‌for her performance in the Malaysian ⁢film Mother Bhumi. the 44-year-old actress was unable to attend the ceremony in Taipei and delivered her acceptance speech via phone.

The role marks a notable departure for Fan,known for her glamorous roles,as she portrays a widowed farmer‌ and⁣ ritual‍ healer. Critics have lauded the performance as ​a breakthrough. During her acceptance speech,​ Fan recounted the director’s question ‌- “Are you willing to let me‌ destroy your face?” – and her immediate response: “Fan Bingbing​ is ready‍ to go all the way.” Director Chong Keat Aun accepted the award on⁢ her behalf.

Fan’s career in China has been stalled ‌since 2018, when she became the ‌target of a crackdown ‍on tax⁢ evasion. Prior to this,⁤ she was one of China’s highest-paid ⁣actresses and ‌had appeared⁤ in Hollywood⁢ productions⁤ like X-Men and Iron Man.

In her speech, Fan described⁤ the role as a “profound resonance ‍of souls” with the ⁣character,⁢ adding that it allowed‌ her to “more⁢ deeply appreciate the resilient strength​ inherent in women.” She expressed her hope for future breakthroughs as a⁢ Chinese filmmaker and her‌ desire to create work with “greater values and deeper meanings.”

Director Chong, who⁢ had previously suggested Fan might ​attend, admitted he ‍was unsure of her location. ⁣He also dedicated the award for Best Original Film Song ‌- a track he wrote the lyrics for -​ to Fan, stating, “We all believe you can start over.⁢ This song is for you.”

The Golden Horse ⁣Awards have seen ⁢limited participation from Chinese‌ directors and actors since 2018,following⁢ a ‌Taiwanese director’s comments supporting taiwan’s independence. beijing,which views Taiwan as part of its territory,banned ​entertainers from attending the event in 2019. Despite this, ⁣last ​year saw ⁣a record number of submissions from China.

Other​ major awards at ⁢the ceremony included Best Film, which went ​to the Taiwanese production A Foggy‌ Tale, and Best director, awarded‌ to⁢ hong Konger ⁤Jun Li for his ⁣film Queerpanorama.Taiwanese actor Chang Chen won⁣ his second Best Leading Actor ⁣award for Lucky Lu,and ⁤Korean-Canadian ⁤Lloyd Kee Choi ⁢received the⁢ Best New Director award for the‍ same film.
