EA Shifts Gears: No New F1 Game in 2026, Expansion Planned for F1 25
Electronic Arts announced today a meaningful change in strategy for its F1 racing series: the company will forgo releasing a new F1 game in 2026, opting instead for a paid expansion to the current F1 25. This move is described as ”a strategic reset for the F1 franchise,” according to EA.
The expansion, slated for release in 2026, will serve as a “premium content update” aligning with the substantial rule and vehicle changes coming to the 2026 Formula 1 season. EA states the DLC will include new cars, sporting regulations, teams, and drivers. A full new F1 game, described as “reimagined,” is now planned for 2027.
This decision comes as Formula 1 prepares for major technical alterations in 2026,as detailed by The Verge, changes the 2026 DLC will need to reflect. EA remains tight-lipped on specifics regarding the 2027 title, but promises “a deeply authentic and innovative representation of the action and thrill of Formula 1,reimagined into a more expansive experience with new ways to play for fans around the world.”
the 2027 game is positioned as part of a long-term investment in the EA Sports F1 franchise, backed by both Formula One Management and the F1 teams themselves. Pricing and a firm release date for the 2026 expansion will be revealed at a later date.
