Exoborne Worldbuilding: Creating a Believable Sci-Fi America

Exoborne Aims for Believable ‌Sci-Fi ⁤World ⁤Rooted in‍ Southeastern US

MALMÖ, SWEDEN⁢ – September 13, ‌2023Sharkmob AB’s upcoming ‌open-world extraction shooter, Exoborne, is prioritizing a sense of⁢ grounded realism within its sci-fi setting, focusing‌ on player progression through exo-rig upgrades rather than conventional character skill trees. ⁣The game, set in a post-collapse version of Colton County-designed to evoke the southeastern United states-aims to immerse⁢ players in⁤ a world that “could exist,” according to‌ developers.

Unlike many games in the genre, Exoborne eschews character-specific leveling. “You won’t improve your character skills, your talents or your character category,” a developer explained. “You really will‌ improve exo-rigs themselves. They⁢ play ⁣the dominant role, and that’s⁣ how we use them in the world.”

This emphasis on exo-rigs is integral to the game’s world-building. Developers have⁤ meticulously crafted Colton County with recognizable elements like fast food restaurants, ‍fire stations, and sheriff’s stations to foster a cohesive and believable environment.”A lot of things…all pointing ⁢to a vrey cohesive world where you actually feel, yes, I’m in Colton County,” they stated. ‍”It might very well be where people I know grew up or something.”

The developers believe this attention to detail-the “little details of the player being [able] to feel and discover around you”-will enhance player immersion and make the game’s fantasy more compelling.

Exoborne will be available for playtesting on Steam between September 16 and October 7. Interested players ‌can register at https://store.steampowered.com/app/2705130/Exoborne.
