Former Basketball Player Arrested in Brutal Elevator Assault; Victim’s Condition Stable
Natal, RN – The family of Igor Eduardo Pereira Cabral, a former Brazilian 3×3 basketball player, has issued a public statement following his preventive arrest for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with over 60 punches inside a condominium elevator. The family expressed dismay over the incident but emphasized their lack of involvement and requested they not be subjected to persecution or threats.
“We stress that family members have no responsibility for acts committed. They are ordinary citizens, workers, who where equally surprised by the facts,” the statement read. The defense also clarified that an address circulated on social media, identified as Igor’s residence, is actually a place of work for his family members, and its public exposure has led to “disorders, threats and embarrassment” for uninvolved individuals.
The victim, Juliana Garcia, is reportedly conscious, medicated, and in stable health. A friend organizing an online fundraiser for her treatment costs provided an update stating that Juliana is experiencing notable facial swelling,which currently prevents immediate surgery. The procedure is anticipated to take place over the weekend once the swelling subsides. She is on a liquid diet and receiving constant pain management.
