RimWorld Launches “Odyssey” DLC, Players Take to the Stars
New Expansion Offers Gravship Travel, Space Exploration, and Diverse Biomes
The popular colony simulation game, RimWorld, has just released its “Odyssey” expansion, introducing a revolutionary way for players to experience the game: nomadic travel via a customizable gravship. This significant update allows players to not only explore diverse planetary landscapes but also venture into the vacuum of space.
A New Era of Exploration
Players will begin their Odyssey journey aboard a small gravship, their mobile home base. This vessel can be expanded by collecting rare gravcores, enabling longer voyages and the ability to explore orbital platforms. These platforms offer unique new materials and locations to discover.
Expanding the RimWorld Universe
The “Odyssey” DLC introduces five distinct new biomes, including the challenging glowforest, where survival depends on fungi due to the absence of traditional plant life. Animal lovers will rejoice with over 40 new species to tame, trade, or utilize for survival tasks like resource gathering and defense.
Fishing has also been added, allowing players to catch a variety of fish, such as tuna. The expansion further enriches gameplay with numerous new quests, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. New weaponry, including an AI-assisted rifle for pinpoint accuracy, and advanced gear like drones and ancient sentries, are also featured.
Critical Acclaim and Player Reception
Launched only two days ago, “Odyssey” has already garnered significant player attention. On Steam, the game has received over 1,000 reviews, achieving an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating of 95%. This rapid success highlights the community’s enthusiasm for the new gameplay mechanics and content.
The game’s developer is offering a 20% discount on RimWorld itself. Additionally, select DLCs are also on sale: “Anomaly” and “Biotech” at 10% off, and “Ideology” and “Royalty” at 15% off. These promotional offers are set to conclude on July 24th.
In a related note, the global video game market is projected to reach $314 billion in revenue by 2027, showcasing the continued growth and investment in the gaming industry (Statista, 2027).
