Evangelical Pastor Condemned for Child Abuse in Valparaíso Region

QUILPUÉ, Chile – An evangelical pastor, Ricardo Lobos Arancibia, has been convicted of multiple sexual abuse charges against his two daughters, a niece and his spouse in Quilpué, located in the Valparaíso region.

The Oral court of Viña del Mar found Lobos Arancibia guilty of three counts of repeated sexual abuse of minors under 14, aggravated sexual abuse of a minor under 14, repeated rape of a minor under 14, and rape of a minor over 14.The crimes reportedly began in 2012 and continued until September 2024, when two complaints were filed, leading too his preventive detention.

Prosecutor walter Wenzel detailed that the court recognized the repeated sexual abuse against the pastor’s niece, who is currently 13 years old. the same charges, also deemed repeated, were applied to his younger daughter, also 13. His othre daughter, now an adult, was a victim of child sexual abuse and repeated rape. His wife was also sexually assaulted.

the prosecution sought a sentence of qualified perpetual prison, citing the aggravating factor of kinship with the victims. This sentence means the accused would need to serve 40 years before being eligible for any penitentiary benefits.

During the trial, the prosecution presented 10 testimonies, including those of the victims and the police officers who took their initial statements. Lobos Arancibia maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, stating his acquittal in his final statement.
