Germany Claims EuroBasket 2025 Title in Thrilling 88-83 Victory Over Turkey
Riga, Latvia – September 20, 2025 – Germany has been crowned EuroBasket 2025 champion after a hard-fought 88-83 victory against turkey in the final held in Riga, Latvia, on Sunday night. The match, a clash between two previously undefeated teams in the tournament, saw a lead change hands multiple times before Germany secured the win in the closing seconds.
Turkey, led by Shane Larkin, Şehmus Hazer, Cedi Osman, ercan Osmani, and Alperen Şengün, started strong, racing to a 13-2 lead. Germany,featuring Schröder,Obst,Bonga,Theis,and Wagner,quickly responded,closing the first quarter with a 24-22 advantage. The first half concluded with Turkey ahead 46-40.
The third quarter was characterized by aggressive play from both sides. A basket fault on Alperen Şengün allowed Turkey to regain the lead, extending it to six points with a three-pointer from Cedi Osman (61-55). Germany battled back,tying the score with a basket from Adem Bona,and finished the quarter with a narrow 67-66 lead.
The fourth quarter proved to be a tense affair, punctuated by three-point shots from Cedi Osman and a strong performance from Shane Larkin. Turkey held a 76-74 lead before a three-pointer from Bonga put Germany ahead. With two minutes remaining, Turkey briefly regained the lead at 81-79, but Germany ultimately prevailed in the final seconds.
This marks Germany’s first EuroBasket title. For Turkey, the defeat represents another near miss, having previously lost in the final in 2001 against Yugoslavia.
Turkey’s national team first competed internationally at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. While they have achieved success in other tournaments,including second-place finishes at the 2001 European Basketball Championship and the 2010 FIBA World Cup,a EuroBasket title remains elusive. They have also secured six medals at the Mediterranean Games, including two gold, and a gold medal at the 1981 Balkan championship.
