Hong‌ Kong – A recent incident on Hong Kong‘s East Railway line has ignited debate over commuter etiquette after a passenger refused to remove his backpack from a seat,preventing an elderly‍ woman from ⁢sitting down. The confrontation, documented by a fellow passenger and shared⁢ online, quickly went viral, highlighting ongoing tensions surrounding public space and consideration for ‌others.

The incident⁣ began ⁣when a commuter noticed an older man occupying a seat with his backpack, despite several elderly passengers standing nearby. A witness, ‍posting ⁢to the “Tai Po TAI⁤ PO” Facebook page, recounted approaching the man after observing him ignore a grandmother⁢ attempting⁣ to ‍sit.

“He just put his bag there‌ and didn’t seem to care ​that elderly‍ people ⁢needed a seat,” the ⁤poster⁣ explained.⁢ “I tried to reason with ‍him.”

Video footage of the encounter ⁣shows the man engrossed in his phone, ​seemingly oblivious to the inconvenience he was causing. When ​asked politely if he would move his bag, the man responded dismissively ⁣in Mandarin, stating,​ “I can do it!” ​- implying‍ he intended to sit there himself with the bag.

the situation escalated when the witness⁢ pressed the issue, pointing out the seat was meant for‌ passengers, not personal belongings. The man responded with​ a threatening ⁣challenge, ⁣repeatedly ​warning,‌ “You move ‌my bag and try it!” He then‍ escalated the situation further by filming ⁣the‍ witness with his phone, demanding they stop ​recording⁤ and even suggesting they call the police.

“I won’t take it, you come and get it! come ⁢and get it!” he shouted, brandishing his phone.

Another passenger ⁢intervened, ‌scolding the man and stating, “That⁢ is a seat for ‌a person, this is⁢ not a truck.”

Faced with mounting pressure, the man eventually conceded, stating he could⁢ hold ​his bag while seated. He then sat down,repeatedly asking,”is it okay for‍ me to sit? Is ⁣it okay?”
