MAR DEL PLATA,Argentina – england’s rugby squad is facing a playful form of team discipline: TikTok dance forfeits. Following their historic ninth victory over the All Blacks in a 120-year rivalry, players are being “fined” with mandatory participation in TikTok dance challenges, a system overseen by the team’s fines committee comprised of Elliot Daly and Jamie George.
The lighthearted punishments stem from on-field errors and are designed to foster team spirit, according to reports. While not all videos are publicly posted, the trend has seen head coach Steve Borthwick reluctantly participate in a cameo appearance. centre Henry Slade revealed the quartet of Freeman, Steward, Pollock and Smith spent “about 45 minutes” choreographing their routine in his hotel room.
“There are a few fines going around that are tiktok dances,” Daly told the BBC’s Rugby Union Weekly. “If you do something wrong, you do a TikTok video. although it doesn’t have to go on TikTok.”
Borthwick, commenting on the players’ efforts, said, “There has been a lot of laughter, a lot of very bad dancing - I think that is one of the better ones.” He confirmed his own involvement, stating, “I was asked to make a guest appearance in someone else’s TikTok dance, so there was a very limited role to play in one. The team saw it and that is as far as it is going!”
England will aim to continue their winning streak, seeking an 11th consecutive victory when they face Argentina on Sunday in their final match of 2025.
