Raducanu Withdraws From US Exhibition Matches Due to Foot Injury
NEW YORK – Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from two upcoming exhibition matches in the United States, citing a minor foot injury, her team announced today. The British number one sustained light bone bruising in her right foot, prompting the proactive decision to prioritize recovery and preparation for the 2024 season.
The 21-year-old Raducanu, who burst onto the global stage with her stunning 2021 US Open victory, is currently able to practice and is anticipated to travel to Barcelona shortly to begin a pre-season training block. This withdrawal allows her to reduce stress on the affected foot ahead of the demanding new season, focusing fully on building strength and conditioning under the guidance of coach Francisco Roig, who joined her team in August.
Raducanu has been utilizing the National Tennis Center in London for training this month and will now dedicate her attention to the overseas camp in Spain. The decision underscores a cautious approach to injury management as she prepares for the challenges ahead.
Adding to the support team, Raducanu has appointed Emma Stewart as her new physiotherapist. Stewart brings extensive experience, previously working with the WTA Tour and most recently with the men’s squad at British Rowing. Stewart will accompany raducanu to select events next year and will immediately oversee her strength and conditioning program.
