Emirates News Agency – Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology signs Memorandum of Understanding with Jordanian Institute for Standardization and Metrology

Omar Al-Suwaidi: The memorandum of understanding embodies the common vision and depth of the close fraternal relations between the Emirates and Jordan and is based on the industrial and economic integration between the two fraternal municipalities.

ABU DHABI, 22 September / WAM / The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian Organization for Standards and Metrology with the aim of increasing the level of cooperation and achieving a common interest in the field of specification of standards, regulations, technical rules, conformity assessment activities and national marks, based on the desire of the two sides to strengthen technical cooperation and the exchange of necessary information and skills.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Omar Al-Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and by Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair, Director General of the Jordan Standards Institution, on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the International Organization for Standardization, held in Abu Dhabi from 19 to 23 September, with a regional presence It is an international organization for organizations and bodies national and international and a group of standardization experts.

The signing was attended by Dr Farah Al Razarouni, Deputy Undersecretary for Standards and Legislation, as well as a number of officials from both sides.

Omar Al-Suwaidi stressed that the memorandum of understanding embodies the common vision and depth of the close fraternal relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and is based on the industrial and economic integration between the two brother countries. He said that the industrial sector in the UAE contributes greatly to accelerating the economic development of the country and the ministry is committed to improving this contribution through the support and application of best practices in the areas of international standardization.

Al Suwaidi explained that the Ministry pays great attention to strengthening national capacities in various areas of the quality infrastructure system, including activities for the development of Emirati technical standards and rules, as it is the main pillar to improve the efficiency of industries. of the United Arab Emirates and consumer protection, and one of the important enablers of economic growth.

He added: “Collaboration with Arab and international institutions and organizations in the field of standardization is of great importance within the ministry’s objectives to improve our industrial capabilities. Efforts to transfer and localize knowledge and exchange information are important to achieve sustainable industry success in the long term, which improves its global competitiveness and helps solidify its position. ”The UAE as a hub for future industries and innovation.

For its part, Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair stressed the importance of cooperation between the two sides in order to realize the common interests of the two fraternal peoples. He said: The Memorandum of Understanding between the UAE and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is further confirmation of the fundamental role of sustainable development, which requires a common vision and cooperation to promote standardization activities that play an important role in support national economies by improving quality requirements for goods, products, services and consumer protection, contributing to standardization and increasing production capacity, improving product quality, facilitating trade and eliminating technical challenges to trade through mutual recognition.

He stressed the importance of the role played by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Institution through its participation in the work of technical committees interested in preparing unified Arab standards in accordance with international best practices in a way that contributes to the development of the industry and facilitates exchanges trade between Arab countries.

The memorandum provides for the exchange of information and knowledge relating to the common areas of work between the two sister countries, and the work to harmonize standards according to approved national, regional and international references.

The two sides agreed to exchange information on technical training programs, as well as on the protection of intellectual property rights and on the exchange of experts in the field of specific standards, regulations and technical rules, as well as mutual cooperation in the field of legislation and regulations relating to examination certificates, national stamps and badges for precious metal artefacts, issued for the competent authorities of the two sister countries.
