Egyptian Golf Championship Returns: New Era for Arab Golf

Egyptian Golf Federation Revives Amateur Open Championship

After a 15-year⁢ hiatus, teh Egyptian Amateur Open golf championship has been relaunched as part of the Arab Golf Series, signaling a renewed focus on growing the sport’s presence in Egypt⁤ adn the broader region. The announcement was made ‌by Omar Hisham Talaat,‍ head of the Egyptian Golf Federation, at a launch ceremony on Wednesday evening.

Talaat emphasized the historical importance of the championship, which originated in 1920,‍ describing it as a long-standing “symbol of integrity, sportsmanship, and national pride” for Egyptian golf. He stated the ⁢2025 tournament represents a fresh start for ​the sport within Egypt and the Arab​ world.

The inclusion of the Amateur Open in the Arab Golf Series is intended too elevate the profile of Arab golf and cultivate a larger pool of professional players.Talaat highlighted positive ​developments within Egyptian golf, including expanding ⁤junior programs, the return of experienced ⁤players, and the⁣ emergence of promising new talent. He affirmed the federation is committed to building⁣ a modern system⁤ based on good governance and professional management.

Adding to the opportunities for rising stars, top performers in the Amateur Open will be invited to ‍compete in the professional Egyptian⁤ Open, in⁢ collaboration with the Asian Tour, and the Red Sea International Golf Championship, both upcoming events. The federation will ensure fair player selection ⁢through open qualifiers.

Talaat concluded by stating the tournament is more than just a competition, representing confidence in Egyptian and Arab golfing abilities and a⁣ shared ambition for a successful future for the ​sport, marking what he called a “new golden age” for the next generation of champions. The launch event was attended by Ghassan Kabbani, vice President of the Africa Golf Confederation,​ and Mohamed Aziz El Fetni, a member of the executive office of ‌the ​Arab golf Federation.
