Ebbett Automotive Plans Multi-Million Dollar Tauriko Hub in Tauranga

Ebbett Automotive Plans Multi-Million Dollar Tauriko Hub in Tauranga

October 3, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Ebbett Automotive is planning a 20,000-square-metre auto hub in Tauriko, consolidating its fragmented Tauranga business to gain economies of scale as new automotive brands enter the New Zealand market.

Consolidating Fragmented Dealerships in Tauriko

The reality is we’ve got quite a fragmented business in Tauranga, Ebbett Automotive representatives explained. Moving to Tauriko gives the firm the opportunity of having a large parcel of land where all of those separate sites come together into a single auto hub. The new location offers strong regional connections, with State Highway 29 and State Highway 36 running directly through the area.

The facility will feature expanded parking, a larger selection of used vehicles, and upgraded servicing facilities. Customers can also access on-site tyre and windscreen services, an integrated car wash, and advanced diagnostic technology designed to measure tyre tread and suspension alignment. While the physical relocation means a longer trip for some customers based in Mount Maunganui, the business expects the site’s vastly improved access and parking infrastructure to offset the extra distance.

Ebbett Guarantees No Job Losses During Relocation

Development costs will run into tens of millions of dollars, though exact financial figures remain undisclosed. Ebbett’s existing dealerships will continue to operate normally until construction wraps up and the move takes place. Management confirmed there will be no job losses as a result of the relocation, and anticipates hiring additional personnel as the enterprise grows.

This strategic shift mirrors Ebbett’s earlier approach in Hamilton, where multiple central-city dealerships were successfully consolidated into a unified automotive hub. The Tauriko project builds directly on that operational model. The expanded footprint will house a diverse brand lineup, including Hyundai, Isuzu, BYD, Forthing, Foton, Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, Volvo, and Polestar vehicles.

Developer and Regional Council Reactions

Element IMF serves as the developer for the Tauriko Business Estate. The firm welcomed Ebbett’s decision as a strong endorsement of the location, noting the new showroom and service facility will provide a significant lift to the area and encourage further regional relocations. Priority One chief executive Dave Courtney called the expansion investment worth celebrating, pointing out that the move will free up a strategic city-centre site for alternative future uses.

Tauriko ward councillor Marten Rozeboom emphasized that the business estate remains a critical engine for industrial and commercial growth in Tauranga. The estate continues to expand alongside major industrial arrivals, including Winstone Wallboards’ Gib manufacturing plant which opened in 2023, and global electronics firm Brother, which established its headquarters in the estate in 2014. More recently, local planners approved a $6.8m Mitre 10 trade and distribution centre at Ihakara Place, while Tauranga City Council greenlit 19 building consents worth a combined $13.4m across the estate over a four-month span.

Infrastructure development continues to support this commercial momentum, backed by proximity to the Port of Tauranga and planned road upgrades. Residential growth is also slated for the immediate vicinity, with up to 4,000 new homes planned for Tauriko West near Tauranga Crossing, where construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
