Young Boys Hospitalized After drinking Rum in Prague playground
prague, Czech Republic – City police in Prague 9 responded to a report of two visibly impaired children on a playground late Monday, discovering they had consumed a half-liter bottle of rum. The boys, aged 11 and 12, were found unable to stand and exhibiting signs of intoxication, according to a statement released by the Municipal Police of Prague on social media.
A witness initially alerted authorities, describing the boys as appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the report. The children confessed to drinking the rum, stating a 16-year-old friend had provided it,and indicated they obtained the alcohol “in Dejvice.”
Breathalyzer tests registered alcohol levels of 1.54 and 1.67 per mille in the two boys. One of the children reportedly told police, ”We just wanted to try it,” as captured in a video released by the city police.
Paramedics were called to the scene and assessed the boys’ health. While heavily intoxicated, they were not in immediate life-threatening danger and were released into the care of their parents.
The Municipal Police have since notified the State Police and the Department of Social and Legal Protection of Children, indicating further investigation and potential consequences for all parties involved. The incident raises concerns about underage access to alcohol and the duty of older minors in providing it.
