Jakarta, indonesia – Members of the Indonesian Parliament recently deactivated by their respective political parties will no longer receive financial compensation, including salaries, according to a statement released Friday by Dasco, a representative of the DPR (House of Representatives). The decision follows mounting public pressure and internal party actions taken against lawmakers whose statements and conduct have been deemed problematic.
The move impacts several prominent figures, including Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa from the Nasdem Faction, Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya from the PAN Faction, and Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian parliament Adies Kadir from the Golkar party Faction. This action underscores a growing trend of political parties responding directly to public outcry by holding their representatives accountable,possibly setting a precedent for future conduct and reinforcing the link between public opinion and parliamentary privilege.
Dasco announced the financial cessation during a press conference at the Indonesian Parliament Building, clarifying that the deactivation directly correlates to the loss of financial rights. The DPR leadership has also requested the Honorary Court of the Council (MKD) to coordinate with each party’s internal court regarding the deactivated members’ status.
Prior to this announcement, the affected political parties had already formally notified the DPR Secretariat General to halt all payments to the deactivated lawmakers. The actions against these representatives stem from concerns over statements and attitudes perceived as disruptive and detrimental to public trust.
