A man brandishing a machete in a downtown Los Angeles street was shot by a police officer Sunday morning. The incident occurred near L.A.Live and the Crypto.Com Arena.

Authorities reported that officers were dispatched around 9:14 a.m. to Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard following calls about a man in the street with a machete. He was reportedly waving the weapon at a security guard.

The suspect was described as wearing a gray shirt, brown shorts, and sandals. Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police announced street closures on Figueroa between 12th Street and Pico Boulevard due to the ongoing police incident.

The area is a hub for events,including the Belly Laughs food and comedy festival at L.A. Live and a Los Angeles Sparks game scheduled at the Crypto.com Arena. The arena advised attendees to expect delays and allow extra travel time.
