Doja Cat Addresses Backlash Over “VieAlbum Cover, Cites “Visceral Meaning”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Doja Cat is defending the artistic direction of her upcoming album, “Vie,” after the cover art sparked immediate and divided reactions online. The image depicts the artist suspended in a luminous yellow parachute tangled in the branches of a tree while wearing a wedding gown.

The cover’s symbolism, as explained by doja Cat, centers on themes of trust, vulnerability, and growth in love. She stated the yellow parachute represents “curiosity, joy, and adventure-a reminder of the risks that come with opening oneself to new experiences.” The tree, she added, symbolizes life and wisdom, with roots representing stability and healing. “The pain from the fall teaches you that those scratches can be healed,” she noted, adding, “Love grows upward, but more importantly downward. It’s the roots that keep you steady.”

Despite her clarification, some fans expressed confusion and disappointment, with one commenter stating the cover “makes no sense with the aesthetic she’s been going with for the era.” Another questioned the artistic choice, asking, “Girl, what is this… she can’t be serious?”

Doja Cat directly addressed the criticism on Twitter on September 23, 2025, writing, “You can’t make me feel bad for a cover that has visceral meaning. The greatest armor is love and integrity.I forgive your harsh criticism but for me I won yet again for following my heart. If I was you I wouldn’t.”

During an Instagram Live session, she further clarified her artistic vision, emphasizing that “What I’m doing with my album isn’t a period piece” and that the cover “doesn’t change the essence of the music.”

The controversy surrounding the “Vie” cover underscores Doja Cat’s established pattern of challenging expectations and maintaining creative control over her work, both sonically and visually. The album is set for release in the coming days.
