Newcastle West, NSW – A Newcastle West woman is facing​ charges after authorities resolute her claim that her Rottweiler was euthanised following a teenage attack was fabricated. The alleged deception prompted a wave ​of public donations before the scheme ⁤was ​uncovered.

The owner initially stated her dog was subjected to repeated kicking by teenagers outside a shop and later had to be put down due to the severity of its injuries.This account sparked outrage and a fundraising effort to cover veterinary costs, with donations pouring in from concerned members of the public. Though, Dog Rescue Newcastle confirmed on Friday‍ that ⁣no money was ‍ever received by the family or the‌ dog’s owner, and all funds are being returned to donors.

Police ​investigations⁢ revealed the dog was not euthanised and‌ had not⁤ sustained injuries consistent with the reported attack.⁢ The owner’s niece declined to comment when approached by media on Friday.⁤

“We all ⁣thought we were doing the right thing, if we had suspected anything I would never have⁤ used my group for it,” one individual involved in the fundraising efforts stated, reflecting ‌the widespread shock and disappointment.
