Newcastle West Dog Euthanasia Claim Was False, Owner Charged
Newcastle West, NSW – A Newcastle West woman is facing charges after authorities resolute her claim that her Rottweiler was euthanised following a teenage attack was fabricated. The alleged deception prompted a wave of public donations before the scheme was uncovered.
The owner initially stated her dog was subjected to repeated kicking by teenagers outside a shop and later had to be put down due to the severity of its injuries. This account sparked outrage and a fundraising effort to cover veterinary costs, with donations pouring in from concerned members of the public. Though, Dog Rescue Newcastle confirmed on Friday that no money was ever received by the family or the dog’s owner, and all funds are being returned to donors.
Police investigations revealed the dog was not euthanised and had not sustained injuries consistent with the reported attack. The owner’s niece declined to comment when approached by media on Friday.
“We all thought we were doing the right thing, if we had suspected anything I would never have used my group for it,” one individual involved in the fundraising efforts stated, reflecting the widespread shock and disappointment.
Online, locals expressed disbelief at the unfolding situation. “I kept wondering how no one came forward to stop it or see it,” one commenter wrote. Another stated, “I had a feeling this was a bit suss….I didn’t think teenagers would do such a thing. Secondly no witnesses.”
police are continuing their investigation and have laid charges against the dog owner. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential for online misinformation and the importance of verifying details before contributing to fundraising campaigns.
