Doctor Arrested for Practicing Medicine While Under House arrest
Massa, Italy – A 45-year-old doctor, Francesco Cardillo, has been moved from house arrest to prison custody following further investigations into his alleged illegal medical practices. Cardillo, from Montignoso, was already facing a sentence of over four years for operating an unlicensed medical practice from his home.
The recent investigations, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza and delegated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Massa Carrara, revealed that Cardillo continued to practice medicine even while under house arrest and suspended from the professional register. He was reportedly found to be treating patients within his parents’ home, which had been converted into a makeshift medical office, complete with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
In one documented instance, a patient allegedly sought treatment from Cardillo in June, despite his restricted status. The patient subsequently experienced complications requiring admission to a proper healthcare facility. During searches of his parents’ home, authorities discovered a fully equipped “medical office” where Cardillo was reportedly seeing patients, including one who was present for an upcoming treatment.
Cardillo’s partner is also implicated, accused of assisting him during these unauthorized medical procedures. The Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the escalation of his precautionary measure to pre-trial detention in prison, citing his history of offenses, including endangering patients undergoing aesthetic surgery under deep sedation in his previous abusive medical setup.
Cardillo’s defense team, led by lawyers David Giovanni Cappetta and Mauro Molinello, stated they are awaiting detailed investigation documents and reserve further comment. They have indicated their intention to appeal the initial sentence, believing there are grounds for reform.
