Disney+ to Integrate Hulu Globally, Overhauls User Interface with personalized ‘For You’ Tab
Disney+ is undergoing a major overhaul, replacing the Star international content hub with full Hulu integration globally and launching a redesigned user interface focused on personalized recommendations. The changes, rolling out now, aim to streamline the viewing experience and increase engagement across Disney’s streaming platforms.
The move marks a notable shift in Disney’s streaming strategy, bringing Hulu’s content libary to Disney+ subscribers outside the U.S.where Hulu was previously unavailable.A new “For You” tab will serve as the homepage, powered by an updated algorithm designed to learn user preferences and deliver tailored recommendations. Alongside “For You,” users will find dedicated tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, contingent on their subscription packages.
Disney is also introducing a “more modern design” to the Disney+ interface, emphasizing characters and stories with a new video display in the “hero” carousel and a dynamic brand row showcasing the latest titles. Content sets will feature “more cinematic, poster-style artwork.” New badging tags – including “Season Finale,” “New Series,” and “New Movie” – will highlight timely content. Profiles will also be more prominent, offering personalized title recommendations based on viewing habits.
Beyond the core interface, Disney+ is enhancing the mobile experience with the launch of Widgets for the iOS app, providing one-click access to programming.
The updates coincide with announced price increases for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ plans and bundles in the U.S., effective October 21. The Disney+ with ads tier will rise from $9.99 to $11.99/month, while Disney+ Premium (without ads) will increase from $15.99 to $18.99/month. Hulu’s standalone plan with ads is also increasing from $9.99 to $11.99/month; the ad-free Hulu plan will remain at $18.99/month.
