Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro Outlines Growth Strategy Focused on Storytelling and Tech
The Walt Disney Company CEO Josh D’Amaro emphasized a strategy for continued growth centered around storytelling, intellectual property and technology. The leadership shift follows D’Amaro’s promotion to replace Bob Iger, tasking the executive with reversing a decade of stagnant stock valuation.
Operational Realignment and the “One Disney” Mandate
D’Amaro’s strategy rests on a core philosophy he defines as “Operate as One Disney,” an initiative designed to align teams and work together. In a memo to employees obtained by Business Insider, D’Amaro outlined three primary pillars for the company: “Great storytelling and creative excellence,” which involves taking “smart risks” and learning quickly; embracing technology to “help us create more immersive, interactive, and personal ways for people to experience Disney”; and “Operate as One Disney.”
The Parks and Experiences Volatility
Before becoming CEO, D’Amaro ran Disney’s Experiences division, headlined by its parks and cruises businesses, which serve as the primary engine for physical revenue.
The company is currently operating under intense pressure to improve its relative valuation, which Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich said late last year was at its lowest relative valuation “in more than 40 years.” To stabilize these margins, Disney must navigate fluctuating attendance levels while managing the high capital expenditures required for park infrastructure.
Interactive Content as a Growth Catalyst
A central tenet of D’Amaro’s vision is the pivot toward interactive content. Analyst Jon Giegengack of Hub Entertainment Research told Business Insider that younger generations want to experience content more deeply rather than just passively view it.
