A Family’s Search for Truth: The Suspicious Death of Diony

The family of Diony Bont is grappling with unanswered questions surrounding her death in Egypt, believing her demise was not accidental. Their inquiry, featured on the RTL4 program Kees van der Spek Unmasked, reveals a troubling picture of isolation, financial manipulation, and potential foul play.

diony met Adam during a family vacation and quickly fell in love, ultimately deciding to move to Egypt to marry him. However, she concealed from her family that Adam was already married, becoming his second wife. “We were strongly against that,” stated her mother,Miep. Her sister, Melissa, questioned Diony directly: “But you are his second wife. How do you see that for you?”

While Diony initially presented a happy facade to her family, speaking positively about Adam, concerning signs began to emerge. Family members noticed bruises on her face, which she attributed to a fall “from a stone staircase.”

The situation escalated when the family received a message from Adam informing them of Diony’s death. “After we had him on the phone, he applied that she died,” Melissa recounted. Her father,Barend, remembers the moment with devastating clarity. “I fell thru the ground.I was broken.it is indeed still stuffy now.” He discovered her body at her apartment after work, and harbors deep suspicions about the circumstances. “I am absolutely afraid that she has not died in a normal way,” Barend stated firmly. “Absolutely,” he repeated, convinced she was murdered.

A trip to Egypt two months later to collect Diony’s belongings yielded a shocking finding. On her phone, Kees and Melissa found a photo album filled with pictures of Diony with extensive bruising. “What! So, this is not normal,” Kees exclaimed. “She did not lose weight.”

Further raising their concerns, the funeral director noted a suspicious head wound and revealed that Adam appeared to have connections within the police and attempted to prevent a full autopsy. “If you ask me this is criminal suspicion,” the funeral director commented.

The family also uncovered a significant financial transaction: Diony had loaned Adam €220,000, a debt that would be forgiven upon her death. In total, she had given him €300,000. “I thought it was so terrible. Did you have to put this under pressure?” Melissa wondered.

In the months leading up to her death,Diony lived in an apartment rented with her own money, but was reportedly isolated from the outside world.Neighbors stated they rarely saw her. “She was not allowed to go outside to do your shopping. She wasn’t even allowed on her balcony,” Kees explained in a voice-over.

Armed with this evidence, Kees and melissa confronted adam, accompanied by a lawyer. When presented with photos of Diony’s injuries, he dismissed them as an “allergic reaction” and denied any wrongdoing. The meeting ended with Adam leaving, and Kees and Melissa feeling deeply frustrated. “this makes me really angry,” Melissa said.

Despite their concerns, a subsequent visit to the police and public prosecutor yielded no results. “We have a bad feeling about it. That chief officer didn’t really feel like it,” they concluded,as authorities refused to reopen the case.

Today, the family remains haunted by unanswered questions. “We can never ask her again: why didn’t you stay in the Netherlands?” Melissa lamented. The most painful realization for them is that Diony spent her final months wholly alone. “That she all the time until she died was parent soul alone in her apartment.”

Kees van der Spek Unmasked airs every monday at 8.30 pm on RTL 4.
