Video of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Assaulting Cassie Admissible in Sex Trafficking Trial
New York – A federal judge has ruled that a video depicting Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs assaulting his former girlfriend, singer Casandra Ventura (known as Cassie),can be shown during his upcoming sex trafficking trial in new York. The video, which surfaced last year and quickly went viral, shows Combs physically attacking Ventura in 2016.
Defence Attempts to Block Video
combs’ defense team had filed a motion in the Southern District Court of Manhattan seeking to prevent the video from being presented as evidence. They argued that the footage had been manipulated.
Prosecution Argues for Authenticity
Prosecutors countered, asserting in court documents that the video fairly and precisely represents the aggression.
They further stated that two witnesses to the events would testify during the trial.
Judge’s Ruling
Judge Arun Subramanian sided with the prosecution. During a hearing, he stated, the defense cannot demonstrate that the recording is inadmissible.
While some images of the assault will be projected, the extent of the footage to be shown remains unspecified, according to The New York Times.
Details of the Assault
The video, originally released by CNN, dates back to March 2016. It shows Combs, wearing a towel around his waist, chasing Ventura down a hallway at the Intercontinental hotel. When Ventura attempts to use a telephone, combs pushes her again and throws an object at her.
Cassie’s Lawsuit and Settlement
Ventura, who dated Combs between 2007 and 2018, previously sued him, alleging physical violence and sexual abuse, including rape and beatings over a decade. The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed monetary amount shortly after it was filed.
Plea Deal rejected
Prosecutors revealed that they had offered Combs a plea agreement, which he rejected. Details of the proposed agreement were not disclosed.
