Detroit Tigers trade targets to fix bullpen problem at All-Star break

Detroit Tigers Secure Top Draft Picks, Reallocate $850K

The Detroit Tigers have finalized contracts with their top two selections from the 2025 Major league baseball Draft, a move that frees up $850,000 in bonus pool money to be distributed among other draftees.

This strategic financial allocation allows the Tigers to potentially sign more talent or offer competitive bonuses to a wider range of their drafted players. The specifics of how the saved funds will be utilized across the remaining draft class are yet to be detailed.

In a separate baseball development, the Texas Rangers saw a strong performance from pitcher Kumar Rocker. Rocker pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and three walks while striking out five batters. This outing marked his second career scoreless start and his first that extended beyond five innings.

Rocker, the third overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, currently holds a 5.66 earned run average across 12 starts in the 2025 season. His performance on Saturday included retiring eight consecutive batters before an opposing player broke up his no-hit bid. A visit from pitching coach Mike Maddux reportedly helped Rocker regain his focus after issuing back-to-back walks in the fourth inning. He threw a total of 96 pitches during the game.

The Rangers’ offence was bolstered by Corey Seager, whose RBI single in the fifth inning off a slider from pitcher Montero extended their lead to 4-0. This hit ended Montero’s outing. Montero’s season ERA stands at 4.28.
