Kick Streamer Jean pormanove’s Death: Animator denies Wrongdoing, Claims “Staging”
One of teh animators for the Kick channel of Jean Pormanove, who died in November 2024, has asserted that “none of us killed him,” defending the content created for the platform amidst scrutiny following the streamer’s death. The statement comes as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Pormanove’s passing and the nature of the often-extreme “challenges” featured on his channel.
Pormanove’s death sparked an investigation into the potentially harmful content broadcast on Kick, a livestreaming platform gaining popularity as an option to Twitch. The case highlights growing concerns about the safety and ethical boundaries of online challenge culture, particularly its impact on young audiences and the individuals participating in these broadcasts. The investigation’s outcome could set precedents for platform responsibility and content moderation policies within the livestreaming industry.
A preliminary investigation launched at the end of 2024, triggered by videos revealed by Mediapart, initially led to the brief detention of Owen Cenazandotti and Safine Hamadi. Both were released without charges.
According to prosecutors, both Cenazandotti and another individual involved in the videos, known as Coudoux, “firmly” denied allegations of violence, attributing the content to “staging intended to make the buzz” and generate income through user donations received during live “challenges.” They claimed the videos were fabricated to attract viewers and financial support.
The investigation continues to explore whether the pressures and dynamics within the channel contributed to Pormanove’s death, despite assertions that any depictions of harm were staged. Authorities are examining the extent to which the pursuit of online notoriety and financial gain influenced the content created and the risks undertaken.
