Darwin Núñez Joins Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia – Transfer Details

Darwin Núñez Completes €53M Move to Al Hilal, ending liverpool Stint

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – August 9, 2025 – In a meaningful transfer progress, Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez has officially joined Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal from Liverpool for a reported fee of €53 million. The move brings an end to Núñez’s three-year spell at Anfield.

The 26-year-old completed a medical examination in Germany, where Al Hilal is currently holding its pre-season training camp, and has signed a three-year contract with the Saudi arabian powerhouse. The transfer includes additional financial performance-based incentives.

Núñez’s Time at Liverpool: A Mixed Bag

Núñez arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2022 from Benfica for a club-record fee of €85 million. During his time with the Reds, he made 143 appearances across all competitions, scoring 40 goals and providing 26 assists. However, the forward often found himself utilized as a substitute, particularly in the recently concluded season, starting only eight Premier League matches out of 30 appearances and netting five goals.

Previous Transfer Interest and Al Hilal’s Pursuit

Speculation surrounding Núñez’s departure surfaced as early as January, with Liverpool rejecting a €70 million bid from Al Nassr as the club prioritized a Premier League title challenge. Throughout the summer transfer window,Italian clubs Napoli and AC Milan also expressed interest, but were unable to meet Liverpool’s financial demands.

Al Hilal identified Núñez as a key target for head coach Simone Inzaghi, aiming to bolster their attacking options as they strive to win the Saudi Pro League title after finishing second last season.

Joining a Star-Studded Squad

Núñez will join a formidable Al Hilal squad already boasting a wealth of international talent, including Kalidou Koulibaly, Theo Hernández, João Cancelo, Rúben Neves, Sergej Milinković-Savić, Malcolm, and Aleksandar Mitrović.

Liverpool’s Active Transfer Window

Liverpool has been actively reshaping its squad during the current transfer window. The club has already secured the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt to strengthen their attacking line and is reportedly pursuing additional forward options. A record offer of €138 million for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak was recently rejected. Other arrivals include Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, and milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Players Luís Díaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton, and goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher have also departed the club.
