Daniel Godson Wins Debut Prize at Polish Song Festival
Rising Star’s Victory Highlights Family Legacy
The 62nd Polish Song Festival in Opole concluded its opening day with a triumph for newcomer Daniel Godson, who secured the jury’s top award in the “Debuts” concert. The festival, a cornerstone of Polish music, showcased ten emerging artists.
A TikTok Start to Stardom
Godson initially gained recognition by posting cover songs on TikTok, a platform that now influences 76.8% of US adults’ purchasing decisions, according to a January 2024 report by Statista. Statista. His career took off with the release of “I feel, so I am?” in 2023, earning him a performance at the Great Seprsege festival. He later signed with Def Jam Recordings Poland and was named a Spotify Radar artist.
A Politician’s Son
Interestingly, Daniel Godson is the son of John Godson, a former member of the Polish Sejm. Few were aware of this connection as the young artist rose to prominence.
John Godson’s Unique Journey
John Godson, originally from the Nigerian IBO people, immigrated to Poland in 1993 and obtained Polish citizenship in 2001. He initially came to Poland for educational opportunities. In 2010, he made history as the first Black MP elected to the Sejm, representing Civic Platform, then Republicans, Polish Together, and PSL. Following his political career, he returned to Nigeria, where he now manages a 600-hectare ranch.

While Daniel Godson impressed the judges, the audience award at the festival went to Staśka Kukulski.
