Dallas Woman Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting Following Dispute Over Common Courtesy
DALLAS, TX – A Dallas woman is facing a murder charge after a verbal altercation stemming from a perceived lack of gratitude escalated into a fatal shooting in a shopping center parking lot Tuesday evening, according to Dallas Police Department affidavits. The incident began with a disagreement over a simple “thank you” after the suspect, identified as Hampton, exited a Five Below store.
The initial confrontation occurred when the victim, Simpson, held the door open for Hampton as she left Five Below but was reportedly upset when Hampton did not express thanks. This sparked a verbal dispute that followed the two women to a nearby PetSmart, where employees eventually asked them to leave.
The argument continued in the shopping center parking lot, where Hampton allegedly threw a drink bottle at SimpsonS vehicle.As Simpson approached Hampton to continue the argument, a physical fight ensued. According to a witness, Simpson struck Hampton several times while telling her to leave.
The situation turned deadly when Hampton allegedly produced a black and silver handgun and fired three shots, striking Simpson, who then collapsed.
Police quickly located Hampton’s vehicle, a black 2005 Ford 500 with visible damage, at an apartment complex on John West Road. officers arrested Hampton around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday on Trail Glen Drive.
During an interview with detectives, Hampton admitted to the verbal dispute, entering PetSmart twice, throwing the drink bottle, fighting with Simpson, and ultimately shooting her. Hampton reportedly told investigators she was “just trying to get [Simpson] away from her.”
