Daddy Yankee and Diljit Dosanjh Unite for Cross-Continental Track “POKITO”

Puerto Rican reggaeton pioneer Daddy Yankee has dropped his 15-track album LA POSTAL, featuring a cross-cultural collaboration with Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh on the song “POKITO,” which marries Spanish and Punjabi lyrics with distinct reggaeton and bhangra production.

The new album explores multiple facets of love—romance, family, and self-love—alongside the artist’s appreciation for Latin music, according to release materials. Alongside the audio, an official music video directed by Stillz premiered on streaming platforms, capturing both performers in vibrant Puerto Rican settings that weave together the visual motifs of two different cultures.

Daddy Yankee Explains Meaning of POKITO

Daddy Yankee explained in a press release that the title “POKITO” is a stylized spelling of the Spanish word poquito, meaning “a little” or “a little bit.” The song also makes use of the phrase poquito a poquito, translating to “little by little.”

The lyrical core centers heavily on discipline, hard work, and achieving success incrementally.

Recording in Puerto Rico

The cross-continental project brought Diljit Dosanjh directly to Puerto Rico for the in-person recording sessions. Daddy Yankee noted in the release that he had long believed Punjabi music and reggaeton would form a strong musical combination.

Inside the Track’s Verse Structure

According to lyrics provided by Genius English Translations, the track opens with Diljit Dosanjh referencing celebrations involving Dom Pérignon and groups of Jatts. Daddy Yankee then enters on the second verse to reflect on his own career journey, tracing his path from starting out at age 17 to transforming reggaeton into a worldwide sound.

POKITO Arrives on LA POSTAL Tracklist

“POKITO” holds the seventh position on the LA POSTAL tracklist. The full album and its accompanying official music video are available now across major streaming platforms.
