Lucie Zedníčková, a Czech actress, deliberately chose to remain in her home country despite having opportunities for a career abroad, according to a recent report in iDNES.cz. The decision, made despite a path laid out for international success, stems from a deep connection to the Czech Republic shared by Zedníčková and her children.
Zedníčková’s upbringing was largely shaped by her grandparents, who raised her. A report in media24.cz indicates that her grandparents even attempted to encourage her move to Germany, suggesting a desire for her to pursue opportunities outside of Czechoslovakia. However, Zedníčková resisted, prioritizing a life within the Czech Republic.
Born Lucie Bártová on November 15, 1968, in Prague, Zedníčková’s early life involved appearances in Czechoslovak Television programs for children, beginning at the age of five, including roles in films like Lásky mezi kapkami deště (Love Between Raindrops) and Hodinářova svatební cesta Korálovým mořem (The Watchmaker’s Wedding Journey to the Coral Sea). Her stepfather, actor Pavel Zedníček, became a significant figure in her life from the age of eight.
Zedníčková’s formal training took place at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). Following her studies, she performed at the Realistické divadlo (Realistic Theatre), became a member of the Činoherní klub (Drama Club), and collaborated with the HÁTA theatre company. Her fluency in multiple languages has also led to roles in German productions.
Her two children, jazz pianist Mikuláš Zedníček, who recently married, and Amelie Pokorná Zedníčková, a university student and actress, share her preference for living in the Czech Republic. According to iDNES.cz, this familial alignment reinforces Zedníčková’s commitment to remaining in her homeland. Zedníčková’s former husband is Vít Pokorný.
