Cyberattack Disrupts Flights at Major european Airports
A widespread cyberattack is causing critically important delays and cancellations at Heathrow Airport in London, Brussels Airport, and Berlin Airport on Saturday, September 7, 2025. Airports are reporting disruptions to flight schedules and longer wait times at check-in as a result of the attack. Passengers have been advised to confirm their travel plans with airlines before heading to the airports.
The disruptions come as concerns grow over increased cyber activity linked to Russian state-sponsored hacking groups. Previously reported vulnerabilities in Cisco networking software have been exploited to target critical global infrastructure, raising fears of escalating cyber warfare impacting essential services. While Frankfurt Airport has not been affected, the incident underscores the vulnerability of international travel networks to cyberattacks and the potential for widespread disruption.
“This has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights,” the airport operator said in a statement.
Heathrow also reported delays due to a “technical issue” at a third-party supplier, while Berlin airport issued a similar warning about longer waiting times at check-in.
Passengers were advised to confirm their travel plans with airlines before heading to the airports on Saturday, Reuters reported.
Previously, it was reported that hackers associated with Russia’s cyber espionage units have been exploiting a vulnerability in outdated Cisco corporation software, targeting thousands of networking devices critical to global infrastructure.
