Crans-Montana Fire: 25 Still Hospitalized in Switzerland, 39 Abroad – Latest Updates

February 11, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

As of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 25 individuals injured in the New Year’s Day fire at the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana remain hospitalized in Switzerland, with a further 39 receiving treatment abroad. The fire, which occurred during a New Year’s Eve party, has resulted in approximately 40 fatalities, according to initial reports.

Nine burn victims are currently undergoing rehabilitation treatment at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, with four patients each being treated at hospitals in Sion and Morges, according to information released by the Keystone-ATS news agency. Three patients are still receiving care at the University Children’s Hospital of Zurich (Kinderspital), two of whom remain in intensive care. An additional five patients are being treated at the University Hospital of Zurich.

Suva, the Swiss Accident Insurance Association, announced Tuesday that it is currently providing rehabilitation services to nine victims at its facilities in Sion (eight people) and Bellikon (one person). Suva typically treats between 30 and 40 burn patients annually, and anticipates admitting additional patients from Swiss and European hospitals in the coming weeks. The organization emphasized that rehabilitation for severe burn injuries typically cannot begin until two to three months after the initial intensive care phase.

Beyond medical treatment, Suva highlighted the significant psychosocial support required for patients with severe burns, noting the need for ongoing therapy with psychotherapists and social workers to facilitate a comprehensive recovery process.

Currently, 17 patients are receiving treatment in France, 6 in Germany, 12 in Italy, and 4 in Belgium, bringing the total number of patients treated outside of Switzerland to 39, down from 41 on February 2nd. Eighteen of those patients are Swiss nationals, a decrease of one from the previous week, according to data provided to Keystone-ATS by KATAMED. The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the condition of all patients at the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, including an Italian-Swiss national, is no longer life-threatening.
