tennessee Authorities Investigate Gruesome Murder of Costa Rican Woman
Lewis Chapel, TN – A costa Rican woman, identified by authorities as Vílchez Mora, 50, was allegedly brutally murdered in Sequatchie County, Tennessee, by her son, Vilchez Mora, 18, and his partner, Gardiner, 64. The case began on Tuesday, October 28, after the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding a possible missing person.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the family’s property and, on Thursday, October 30, discovered evidence suggesting Vílchez Mora had been beaten to death. According to reports, the son initially told officers his mother had traveled to Costa rica. Though, a search of the home revealed “red stains on carpet believed to be blood, red splatters on walls, desks and photographs,” and an industrial vacuum cleaner containing suspected blood, according to News Channel ABC.
The examination led authorities to a wooded area near the residence where they found a bonfire containing human remains identified by Coroner Karen Shepherd as belonging to Vílchez Mora. Additional suspicious human remains were discovered nearby.
Both Vilchez Mora and Gardiner have been charged with murder and desecration of a corpse. A judge denied bail to both men during a hearing on Friday and appointed legal counsel for their defense.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 8. Vílchez Mora is originally from Heredia, Costa Rica.
