Correio da Manhã: Commenting Rules & Guidelines | Reader Responsibility

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

The Correio da Manhã newspaper has outlined a comprehensive set of rules governing comments posted on its website, emphasizing responsible discourse and legal accountability. The guidelines, published online, come into effect as readers are granted access to commenting features, limited to registered users and subscribers of the Correio da Manhã Premium service.

Under the new regulations, commenters explicitly declare themselves as the sole owners of the content they submit, assuming full responsibility for its accuracy and legality. The newspaper secures a perpetual, exclusive license to utilize submitted content across all platforms. Users are legally bound to ensure their comments are not obscene, offensive, or infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others.

Specifically prohibited content includes commercial advertising outside designated areas, hate speech, racism, xenophobia, discriminatory language, incitement to violence, and any material intended to defame or harm the reputation of individuals. Commenters acknowledge they are liable for any fines, costs, or penalties arising from their posts.

While the Correio da Manhã does not commit to proactively monitoring or pre-approving all comments, its editorial team reserves the right to reject submissions that violate the established rules. The newspaper also retains the right to suspend or permanently ban users who breach the guidelines. All comments will be automatically hidden one week after publication.

The newspaper’s policy clarifies that submitted comments represent the individual opinions of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Correio da Manhã. The publication also announced it is initiating a process to update its editorial statute, specifically to address the application of rules and restrictions regarding the use of artificial intelligence in its journalism.
