COVID-19 Hospitalizations Rise ‌in‍ South Korea, Officials ​Urge Caution ‍as Fall Vaccination Campaign ‍Looms

Namwon, South KoreaHealth officials‍ in Namwon are reporting a sustained increase‌ in COVID-19 hospitalizations, marking the⁣ tenth consecutive week of rising cases. The Namwon⁢ Public Health Center anticipates this trend will continue through September, prompting renewed⁣ calls for adherence to preventative measures, particularly to protect vulnerable populations.

Recent surveillance data from the Korea Centers ‌for Disease Control and ​Prevention (KCDC) reveals 433 COVID-19 related hospitalizations were recorded during the 25th-36th epidemiological weeks (August​ 31st – September 6th).Notably,‌ over 60% ‍of these hospitalizations were among individuals aged 65 ‌and older.

“We are seeing a concerning rise in hospitalizations, and it’s​ crucial that families of high-risk individuals – the elderly and those with compromised immune systems – seek prompt medical attention if symptoms⁤ like ‌sore throat, cough, or fever develop,” stated a spokesperson for the Namwon Public Health Center.

The health center is also emphasizing ⁣the‍ importance of continued preventative measures within healthcare and long-term care‌ facilities. ‌ Strict adherence to mask-wearing protocols for both staff and visitors is being urged to minimize​ transmission within these settings.

Namwon city‌ Health Center is⁢ actively monitoring the availability of antiviral⁢ treatments like Paxlovid, working​ with local pharmacies and⁢ treatment centers to ensure timely access for⁤ high-risk patients.

Looking ahead, officials announced the upcoming fall COVID-19 vaccination⁤ campaign, scheduled to ​begin October 15th. Free vaccinations will be available to individuals aged 65 and⁣ over ⁤at designated medical institutions.

“As‌ COVID-19 continues to circulate,​ practicing good ​respiratory hygiene – including frequent handwashing, cough etiquette, and regular indoor ⁣ventilation – ⁤remains paramount,” emphasized Han Yong-jae, Director of the Namwon City Health Center.”these simple steps can significantly reduce the spread and ‍protect our community.”
