Teresa Sanchis has been appointed as the General Director of Research for the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya, according to an announcement from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) on February 8, 2025. Sanchis, previously the Head of Strategy at IBEC, assumes the role with a mandate to oversee research initiatives within the Catalan regional government. The appointment is viewed as recognition of Sanchis’s scientific trajectory and commitment to research management, IBEC stated. She holds a doctorate in Physics from the University of Barcelona, having completed her undergraduate degree in Physics at the University of Valencia. Sanchis’s expertise extends to science leadership and management, evidenced by a Master’s degree from the UPF Barcelona School of Management. She has also completed coursework in Open Science from the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media, as well as postgraduate studies in Non-Profit and Social Economy Management at the Ramon Llull University and International Development at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Prior to joining IBEC in 2008, Sanchis held positions at the University of Barcelona and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, specializing in European and international research projects. At IBEC, she initially focused on establishing the institute’s research project management department before leading the development of its Strategy area in 2016. From that position, she has spearheaded numerous strategic initiatives, collaborations, and institutional projects. According to her LinkedIn profile, Sanchis has over 18 years of experience in the field. She currently serves as the Generalitat de Catalunya’s General Director of Research. NANOMED Spain has also noted her appointment, stating that Sanchis was, until recently, the Executive Coordinator of the platform. The organization highlighted the appointment as a recognition of her scientific contributions and dedication to research administration. As of February 14, 2026, the Generalitat de Catalunya has not released a detailed policy agenda outlining Sanchis’s priorities in her new role.
