Colombia Falls to Germany in U-17 World Cup opener
Colombia’s Under-17 team suffered a swift defeat in their FIFA World Cup debut, falling 1-0 to defending champions Germany on november 4, 2025. Langsteiner scored for Germany within the first 17 seconds of the match, capitalizing on a passive Colombian defense and a perceived error by the goalkeeper.
This marks the third meeting between Colombia and Germany in the U-17 World Cup. Previous encounters resulted in a 3-3 draw in 2007 and a 4-0 German victory in the round of 16 in 2017. The loss is a challenging start for Colombia,who recently finished second in the 2025 South american U-17 Championship,losing to Brazil in a penalty shootout. Santiago Londoño was the tournament’s second-leading scorer with 5 goals.

the match saw a good recovery attempt by Colombia in the 13th minute, quickly followed by a lost possession. Earlier,in the 11th minute,Macías had a high shot following a play initiated by Escorcia. Colombia also generated opportunities in the 6th minute thru Londono, including a free kick that coach Freddy Hurtado felt could have been better executed, though no shots on goal resulted.
“We are going to face a Germany that has history in this category, that competes well, but we have been dreaming of the objectives we have set for ourselves,” stated coach Hurtado prior to the match.
