Curicó, chile – John Florez Moreno, identified as a key leader of the Colombian criminal organization “Los Shottas,” has been arrested in the Chilean commune of Curicó. The capture, a result of collaborative efforts between Chilean authorities and Interpol, comes as Florez Moreno is wanted in Colombia for serious crimes including aggravated homicide, extortion, kidnapping, and arms trafficking, alongside charges related to drug trafficking.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Unit of Criminal Analysis and High Complexity (UNAAC) of the Local Prosecutor’s office and the Curicó Homicide brigade. According to Prosecutor Rodrigo Pizarro of the UNAAC of the Maule Prosecutor’s Office, Florez Moreno was apprehended based on an arrest warrant issued by the Chilean Supreme court at the request of the Colombian government for extradition. The extradition request specifically centers around a charge of qualified homicide in Colombia.

subprefect Erik Cáceres, head of the BH Curicó, confirmed the individual’s status as a person of interest to Colombian authorities, citing crimes including homicide and kidnapping, as well as weapons-related offenses. Interpol Santiago played a crucial role in facilitating international coordination during the investigation.

Commissioner Edgardo del Valle, Head of the National Central Office of Interpol Chile, emphasized Florez Moreno’s significance as a “high value objective” for colombian authorities, stating he is believed to be part of the leadership of “Los Shottas,” a criminal organization based in Buenaventura, Colombia, primarily involved in kidnapping, homicide, drug trafficking, and arms trafficking. Del Valle noted numerous extradition requests from Colombia had been made in an attempt to locate Florez Moreno.

The arrest now initiates the extradition process, with Florez Moreno currently available to the Chilean court system. While the article does not mention a 4-year-old girl, it does state that the extradition request is specifically related to a charge of qualified homicide in Colombia.
