In a January investment round, Clubhouse was valued at $ 1 billion, according to US media. Clubhouse is made by the California company Alpha Exploration. Venture capitalist Andreessen Horowitz previously put money into that startup.
Twitter Spaces and more rivals
Competing social media companies also recognize the potential of Clubhouse and come up with their own variants. For example, Twitter is rolling out a similar feature in the coming weeks: Twitter Spaces. It also allows users to invite others to live audio calls.
Facebook, Slack, LinkedIn, Spotify and Discord, among others, are also working on similar audio chat features.
Clubhouse started this week with a new payment function, which allows users to send donations to speakers. The app makers also plan to enable paid events and subscriptions.
