Popular YouTuber “Cicalone” Attacked in Rome,Security Guard Also Injured
Rome,Italy - November 13,2023 - Simone Ruzzi,a 50-year-old YouTuber known online as ”cicalone,” was brutally attacked by a group of approximately ten individuals at the Ottaviano metro station (Line A) in Rome this evening. The incident,documented by cicalone himself on Instagram,left him with visible injuries,including a black eye and abrasions to his face.
Cicalone, a former boxer with nearly one million YouTube subscribers, gained notoriety for filming and exposing criminal activity within the city’s public transportation system. He reported the attack via an Instagram story, stating he was ambushed “from behind in 10” – a reference to the number of assailants. Images shared on his account show him receiving medical attention on an ambulance stretcher.
According to police reports,the attack occured at approximately 6:44 PM. After assaulting Cicalone, the group turned on a security guard present at the station, inflicting injuries before fleeing the scene in the direction of Viale Giulio Cesare.
This is not the first time Cicalone has been targeted. He has previously been attacked while documenting crime in both Rome and Naples, highlighting the risks associated with his citizen journalism approach.
Authorities from the Borgo police station are currently investigating the incident and working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The attack raises concerns about the safety of individuals documenting crime and the escalating levels of violence in public spaces.
