Chungnam Students Showcase AI & Athletic Prowess

The Chungnam Office of Education recently hosted two major events, demonstrating a commitment to both technological innovation and student well-being.On June 6th, the office successfully concluded the 4th AI Robot End Development (Hackathon) Hanmadang, a collaborative event run in conjunction with Sunmoon University’s Software (SW) central university project. This was followed by the ‘Chungnam School Sports Club Contest’ held June 6th and 7th.

The AI Hackathon saw participation from 547 teams comprised of elementary and middle school students, totaling 1,042 individuals. The “End Development” concept, defined as short-term collaborative work culminating in a finished product, guided the competition. Students tackled two distinct challenges: a problem-solving task utilizing creative ideas and physical components, and a digital content creation project leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The latter involved pre-online submissions, with expert judges selecting outstanding works for presentation at the event.

Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol noted the increased participation in the AI event as evidence of growing interest in AI and software education within Chungnam schools.

Together, the Chungnam School sports Club contest aimed to invigorate the province’s “1 Student Two Event Autonomous Sports Activities” initiative. The contest, divided into preliminary and main competitions, featured 19 sports across 10 locations in Chungnam, including events from the national school sports club festivals and sports unique to the Chungnam region. A total of 687 clubs participated – 164 elementary, 110 middle, and 74 high school teams – with top performers in 17 sports qualifying for the national school sports club festival scheduled for October-November across 17 cities nationwide.

Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol expressed his hope that the School Sports club Contest woudl empower students to build self-esteem, showcase their abilities, support one another, and foster collective growth.
