A five-year-old child died after being struck by a city bus in Elbląg, Poland, authorities have confirmed. New details released by police indicate the bus had left a roundabout on ul. Oświęcimska, proceeding after yielding to two cyclists and determining no further pedestrians or cyclists were entering the crosswalk.
The carrier’s account states the driver initiated movement believing the passage was clear. Shortly after, a boy on a bicycle entered the roadway and collided with the right side of the bus, near the front axle. Police are investigating weather alcohol or other intoxicants were a factor in the incident.
Further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the accident and the actions police will take in the matter. A separate incident involving a 19-year-old who died following a police intervention in Elbląg is also under scrutiny.
