SAN ANTONIO – Heavy traffic and limited parking are impacting the downtown area as Chris Brown’s Breezy Bowl XX concert draws over 50,000 fans to the Alamodome Saturday evening. East Cesar Chavez Boulevard is currently experiencing significant congestion,a situation Alamodome officials anticipated.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and many attendees are already arriving, with a visible presence of fans wearing Chris Brown merchandise. Parking is a major concern, with only 2,800 spaces available for the expected crowd of 45,000. Organizers report a large number of concertgoers are choosing to forgo driving to avoid parking difficulties.
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has implemented a traffic management plan to mitigate congestion, directing vehicles traveling from west of highway 37 eastward toward the Alamodome via routes north and south of East Cesar Chavez blvd. Alamodome representative Richard Oliver stated this strategy, combined with VIA Metropolitan Transit buses, has shown success in reducing traffic during previous events over the past year.
Recent concerns from residents regarding VIA bus traffic have been addressed by relocating bus drop-off and pick-up locations to the north and west sides of the venue.
