China has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of US-made analogue integrated circuit (IC) chips, the Ministry of Commerce announced Saturday. The probe was initiated at the request of the Jiangsu provincial semiconductor association, representing domestic industries impacted by the imports, and comes just before scheduled trade talks between Chinese and US delegations in Madrid, Spain.
The investigation will focus on commodity interface IC chips and gate drive IC chips, examining potential harm to chinese industry between 2022 and 2024. According to the Ministry of Commerce, preliminary evidence suggests import volumes of the targeted US products rose 37% from 2022 to 2024, while import prices fell 52% during the same period.
“This has lowered and suppressed the sales prices of domestic products and caused damage to the production and operation of domestic industries,” the Ministry stated. The investigation will determine if these imports constitute dumping and are causing material injury to Chinese chip manufacturers.
